A new study from Oregon Health and Science University in the United States has found that booster vaccines, infections (and reinfections) are generating "potent" immunity.
The new research was published this September in the scientific journal Med and analyzed blood samples to understand the immune response.
"As the number of Omicron cases increases and global vaccination and booster campaigns continue, an increasing proportion of the world's population will acquire potent immune responses that may protect against future SARS-CoV-2 variants," the study explains.
The sample was based on 99 people from the university and measured the response to the virus by those who already had a third booster dose and also those who had been infected for less than a month.
"At the beginning of the pandemic, we counted on very high mortality in certain vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, but that reality is slowly changing," says Marcel Curlin, one of the study's coauthors.
"We reinforce the idea that vaccination is the way to a milder disease. Even for those who are older, the chances of having a serious illness if they get infected again will be much lower than at the beginning of the pandemic," he continues." (News to the Minute)
