The Facebook company announced Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses on Thursday, promising a new way for users to capture photos and videos, listen to music or make calls. Discreet in appearance, these glasses come with two 5 MP cameras, speakers with a built-in microphone, and must be paired with an iOS or Android device to take advantage of all the features. The use of two lenses makes it possible to introduce 3D effects to photos and videos after uploading to the app.
The Ray-Ban Stories have an announced autonomy of close to a day's use, with Tech Crunch confirming this capacity after having already tested them. The device weighs less than 50 grams and is shipped with a protective leather case that recharges it according to the news published by Exame Magazine.
To control the features, there are two physical buttons and a touch panel on the right side to adjust the volume or answer a call. There is also an LED that, when lit, indicates to those around that video is being recorded.
One of the main shortcomings of these glasses is the absence of integrated screens in the lenses that allow users to take advantage of Augmented Reality content. Another is the indication that they are neither waterproof nor splash-proof.
The smart glasses will be priced starting at $299, with different color combinations and lenses available, and it is even possible to buy a version with prescription lenses.
