New regulations for energy concessions

Concessões de energia terá novo regulamento

Concessions for the production, transportation, distribution and sale of electricity will be subject to new regulations in the country.

The information was provided by Estêvão Pale, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, during the entity's retreat, which is taking place in Ponta do Ouro, in Maputo province, with the aim of discussing and proposing revisions to the legal framework in the mining sector and other segments, according to "Notícias".

The new regulation, according to the publication, aims to guide the storage, import and export of this resource in such a way as to allow these activities to take place within the best possible parameters, in which the state can best benefit.

It is also expected that a universal tax regulation will be created, as well as a local content law, which has long been advocated by the business community.

The legal instruments should be consolidated and ready for approval by at least the end of the current year.

"Let's consider this as a crucial phase for us to have a legislative package that reflects Mozambique's needs and priorities and development prospects," the minister appealed, quoted by the newspaper.

He also said there was a need to move forward with the review and modernization of the legal framework in the areas of mining, oil, gas and energy in order to respond to current challenges.

He said that these reforms are part of the challenge of allowing the exploitation of natural resources to benefit more and more Mozambicans.

According to the source, the current scenario requires adjustments to the new reality and the guarantee of a regulatory framework that contributes to attracting investment to the sector and creating more jobs that promote social coexistence with communities.
