Cimentos de Moçambique (CM) announced today an investment plan worth 60 million US dollars to modernize and increase the production capacity of its plant in Sofala province, located in the municipality of Dondo.

The modernization includes the installation of a modern and efficient clinker kiln as well as a new vertical cement mill with a capacity of 80t/h and a new cofferdam with a capacity of 120t/h.

The production capacity of the Dondo plant will reach 1.3 million tons of cement per year.

Another important investment by CM is nearing completion, the modernization and expansion of the Nacala plant also includes the installation of a modern clinker kiln. Work began at the end of 2023 and will be completed in October 2024.

"The investments in Nacala and Dondo are the materialization of our trust and commitment to the development of Mozambique," said CM's CEO, Fernando Barreto.

"We are proud of our centenary history, of having contributed to the development of the country, I thank our workers, our customers, our suppliers, and other partners who make CM a national pride."

"As part of our social responsibility, we also plan to develop a partnership with the municipalities of Dondo and Beira so that the clinker kiln can eliminate urban waste, contributing to the community and to the correct disposal of waste, in line with the best practices worldwide.

The increase in production capacity will also generate more direct and indirect jobs, as well as more business in the region with tax generation," he added.

"We plan to start construction in December this year and finish in November 2025," concluded the CEO.
