At least seven districts in Nampula province have been without electricity from the national grid since yesterday, as a result of tropical cyclone Dikeledi, which has been battering the region since Sunday.
The director of the Customer Service Area of Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), Lodovino Beleza, was quoted by "Notícias" as saying that the districts of Mossuril, Ilha de Moçambique, Nacala-Porto, Nacala-a-Velha, Nacarôa, Monapo and Memba were without electricity.
According to the source, due to the phenomenon, the power supply network to these districts suffered power shortages, forcing an immediate shutdown.
In Memba district, for example, the cut has affected all administrative posts, according to the respective administrator, Manuel Cintura.
He pointed out that the region began to experience torrential rain in the early hours of Monday morning, but without destroying public infrastructure in the district.
