Mozambique's National Football Coach, Chiquinho Conde, reacted with confidence to the draw for the African Nations Championship (CAN) held this Monday (January 27) in the Moroccan city of Rabat, which placed the Mambas in Group F along with the current holders of the trophy, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Gabon.
For Chiquinho Conde, the Mambas are at the same level as their opponents, and can do better compared to their other participations in the most important national soccer competition on the "Cradle of Humankind" continent.
"We always have a say, we are here among the 24 best teams on the continent on merit and what we have done gives us the motivation to make our vision bigger," he said in an interview with the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF).
"We have to get across to our players that we can look for positive forces and show something when people least expect it. We want to do better," he said minutes after the draw.
Mozambique will take part for the sixth time in the African Nations Championship, which is scheduled to start on December 21, 2025 and the final on January 18, 2026.
The Mambas first took part in the CAN in 1986 in Egypt, then in 1996 in South Africa, 1998 in Burkina Faso, 2010 in Angola and 2023 in Ivory Coast. (Info note)
