The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, said this Thursday during a rally in Nampula province that he wants to create an environment of peace in Mozambique. He explained that this was the aim of his visit to that northern province.
During his speech, Chapo called for peace, national reconciliation and unity among Mozambicans. He invited all Mozambicans to take part in the national dialog to achieve peace.
Daniel Chapo questioned the fact that elections have been held for more than 30 years, yet the electoral process is still plagued by "confusion", and invited all Mozambicans to reflect on the matter.
"The signing of the agreement with the political parties is not the end, but the beginning," said the President. He also said that the differences between Mozambicans should not be used as a pretext for violent demonstrations and acts of vandalism.
Chapo condemned the destruction of public infrastructures, such as hospitals and roads, saying that such action harms Mozambicans themselves.
"Today, when children get sick, it's very difficult to go to hospital, because there is no hospital anymore," the Head of State lamented.
