On Thursday morning, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, took part in the Extraordinary SADC Summit, convened due to the situation of instability in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which involves the occupation of M23 military troops.
At the Extraordinary SADC Summit, the proposal was launched for the withdrawal of troops, a process that must be balanced so that no security vacuum is left in the region, hence the need for it to be gradual and systematic.
Daniel Chapo said that the situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo has worsened considerably and the supply lines for food, medication and other basic necessities are practically closed.
However, despite the serious constraints, efforts are being made at various levels within SADC to re-establish peace and security in the region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As a country, said the President of the Republic, quoted in a publication in "O País", Mozambique always defends dialogue and democratic efforts, which, on the one hand, are being carried out by Angola, which recently took over the presidency of SADC in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
"As Mozambique, our position is to continue to support the efforts of Luanda and Nairobi to restore peace in the region," said Daniel Chapo.
"We are taking this opportunity to once again, like Mozambique, defend the diplomatic solution for peace and stability in the region," Chapo stressed during a press conference this Thursday morning in Maputo City.
The Head of State said that, during the Extraordinary SADC Summit, he recognized the efforts of the President of Congo, who has involved SADC in contributing to peace.
He also highlighted the efforts of the President of Tanzania, who chairs TROIKA, the security body in SADC, and the President of ZImbabwe, for convening the summit and, above all, as chair of SADC at this time.
"As a country, we will continue to defend the need for the efforts made by Rwanda and Nairobi for peace and stability in the eastern region of Congo," said Daniel Chapo.
