Carlos Zavala was elected yesterday afternoon as Frelimo's first secretary in Maputo province.

According to "Notícias", the election took place in two rounds of voting during the third extraordinary session of the Provincial Committee called for this purpose.

In all, Zavala won 70 votes against 35 for Alves Cossa, in an election with 105 voters.

Frelimo's first secretary in Maputo province replaces Avelino Michine, who stepped down after being appointed secretary of state in Zambezia province.
