The national soccer team, Mambas, beat Benin's national team, 1-0, on Wednesday in the group "L" qualifying match for the African Nations Championship (CAN) 2023.
The winning goal for the Mambas was scored in the second half of the first half, in the 38th minute, by Geny Catamo, who finished off Reinildo Mandava's pass, on the left side of the attack.
Mozambique had not won since November 16, 2022, when they defeated Malawi precisely in Cotonou for World Cup 2022 qualifying.
After a one-all draw in their first group match against the Malawi counterparts, the Mambas are now in second place, which qualifies them for the final stage of the competition, just behind Senegal.
Senegal has six points, followed by Mozambique, with four, Rwanda, with one, and Benin, which has yet to pick up a point.
The national team is guided by Chiquinho Conde, a former player from Sporting, Belenenses, Sporting de Braga, Vitória de Setúbal, and Portimonense.
