Producers in the district of Palma, in Cabo Delgado, who are part of the families that returned to their areas of origin after the terrorist attacks, are complaining of a lack of seeds for the current agricultural campaign.
The Director of the District Service for Economic Activities (SDAE) in Palma, Inssa Anssumane, has announced that at least 3,000 tons of various seeds are needed to meet the challenges of the current agricultural season (2023-2024).
Quoted by Terra magazine, Anssumane also said that the Palma district currently has no private providers of agricultural inputs, which is why the local government is working with the provincial directorate of agriculture and the FAO to secure assistance with seeds.
In the current agricultural season, the Palma district expects to produce 73,000 tons of various crops for food and small-scale marketing.
Official figures indicate that the district currently has 24 extension technicians with the capacity to assist 7,000 producers.
