Internet blocking: Venâncio Mondlane says operators should be sued

Bloqueio de internet: Venâncio Mondlane diz que operadoras devem ser processadas

Venâncio Mondlane, a presidential candidate who is leading a series of nationwide demonstrations, says that the operators and the state should be prosecuted for blocking internet access to the population.

In another live broadcast that lasted around 45 minutes, Mondlane said that under the Access to Information Act, the blocking of the internet violates citizens' fundamental rights.

"No operator, not Vodacom, not Movitel or Tmcel or any other, can appear that has the right or competence to reduce the bandwidth," said Mondlane.

Mondlane goes further and says that even the government alone cannot take the initiative to restrict or limit internet access. "This means that it is a violation of human rights to limit or blackout the internet."

Mondlane also urged human rights institutions to sue the operators, as well as the state itself.
