Fault leaves Manica, Sofala and part of Inhambane without electricity

Avaria deixa Manica, Sofala e parte de Inhambane sem energia elétrica

A breakdown this morning (29) on a transmission line in the Central region left around 344,000 customers of Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) without electricity.

A statement from EDM indicates that the fault caused the interruption of the electricity supply in the districts of Catandica, Guro, Tambara, Mossurize and Machaze, in Manica province; in the districts of Nhamatanda, Dondo, Muanza, Buzi, Chibabava and Cidade da Beira, in Sofala province; as well as in the districts of Inhassoro, Machanga, Mabote, Guvuro and part of Vilanculo, in the north of Inhambane province.

While the fault is being repaired by the technical teams from EDM and Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), part of the provinces of Manica, Sofala and Inhambane are being fed from alternative sources.

However, as a precaution, during the period of technical intervention, all electrical installations should be considered to be permanently live.
