The Water Regulatory Authority (AURA), represented by Suzana Saranga Loforte, and the district of Mossuril by its administrator, Rui Chong, signed the agreement for regulation of the water supply and sanitation service.
This partnership aims to create conditions for the economic and financial sustainability of the water supply and sanitation service providers in the Mossuril district and ensure its quality, for the populations.
In her intervention, Suzana Saranga Loforte referred that ''the Government created AURA to safeguard the interests of consumers, consumer protection and investment protection, always bearing in mind the need to ensure the continuity of the public service of water supply and sanitation, at a fair price and with quality''.
It is up to this authority, he emphasized, to set the drinking water tariffs, which must guarantee access to the water supply and sanitation service to all sections of the population and ensure coverage of operating costs, including maintenance and expansion of the water supply service, among others.
For his part, Rui Chong, Mossuril's administrator, said that this agreement should not be just the achievement of a goal: "It is necessary to create structural conditions for its materialization and the establishment of a regulatory commission that can support local communities in solving water supply and sanitation problems".
At a time when the water regulator needs to mobilize funds from cooperation partners to implement its strategic and sustainability plan for the period 2022-2026, the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, urged AURA to be more active in the regulation and supervision of the water supply service, safeguarding, in an impartial and objective manner, the interests of the state and of consumers.
''Today we have seen the signing of the agreement with the Mossuril district but it is our expectation, as a Government, that the Regulatory Authority will continue to explore ways to establish effective partnerships with more districts and municipalities and empower local regulatory commissions, equipping them with adequate tools for regulation focused on protecting consumer interests,'' he concluded.
