General education classes for the 2025 school year start on February 4, with 1.6 million new entrants to grade 1 expected.

The official opening will take place on Friday, with the participation of school principals, teachers and other staff from the education sector and parents, according to "Noticias".

At the moment, according to a source from the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), quoted in the publication, enrollment is still taking place for new 1st graders, a process that should have ended on December 31, but which has been extended.

The aim of extending the deadline is to ensure that no school-age child is left out of the National Education System, which is why principals and school managers have been instructed to continue receiving parents who wish to register their children.

By the last day of last year, 1.1 million children had been enrolled, corresponding to 68.7%, and the target is expected to be reached by the end of this month.
