The Republic of Angola began, this Saturday, the race for the presidential elections next August 24, with the two largest parties in the country showing their capacity for mass mobilization.
In power since 1975, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), headed by Joao Lourenço, the current president of Angola, was present at Camama, in Luanda, and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) was at the September 17 Airport, in Benguela, led by Alberto da Costa Júnior.
More than 14 million Angolans are eligible to vote in these elections, including, for the first time, 22,000 citizens living abroad.
The numbers have raised doubts and complaints in recent days after several people noted the presence of deceased voters, which the Government dismissed, through the voice of the Director of the Official Electoral Register, Fernando Paixão, who blamed the relatives for not declaring the deaths.
In the General Elections of August 24, in which seven parties and one coalition are running, Angolans will choose a new president and deputies to the National Assembly.
