Access Bank strengthens its presence in the African market

Access Bank reforça presença no mercado africano

As part of its strategy to expand into the African market, Access Bank recently completed the acquisition of two banks in Angola, namely Finibanco and Standard Chartered.

The Bank will also go ahead with the acquisition of Standard Chartered in other countries such as Cameroon, Gambia and Sierra Leone, as well as its Consumer, Private & Business Banking business in Tanzania.

These transactions are subject to the approval of the respective local regulators and the Nigerian banking regulator and may be completed within the next twelve months.

Access Bank considers the acquisition of these new banks to be strategic and fundamental, as it will allow it to build a strong global franchise focused on serving as a gateway for payments, investment and trade between African countries.

Over the last two years, Access Bank had already strengthened its global presence in Africa with the acquisition of stakes in countries such as Cameroon, Botswana, Kenya, Guinea and South Africa, and reinforced its presence in Zambia.

The Group's growth and solidification is also expanding into the European market, with the recent start of operations in Paris. The Bank's presence in France is in line with Access Bank's long-term strategy of becoming Africa's most respected bank and a gateway to Europe and the world.

For the Managing Director of Access Bank Mozambique, Marco Abalroado, "the strong expectations of growth on the African continent have led the Bank to invest in a robust expansion strategy with the aim of stimulating the growth of its network of international trade and payment centers, using it as a platform to show Africa's potential to the rest of the world".

Also in Mozambique, following the acquisition of BancABC in 2021 and the completion of the rebranding process, the Bank is continuing its expansion strategy, with a total of 11 branches in 6 of the country's provinces. Also as part of the process of expanding the banking network, it will open 5 new branches in the country later this year.

The Bank also continues to invest in national staff, offering the most innovative solutions on the market.

The leader in the ranking of African banks in terms of the number of clients, Access Bank is the largest bank in Nigeria, operating a network of more than 750 branches and agents.

It is present on three continents and in 18 countries and serves 49 million customers, employing more than 28,000 people in its operations in Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom. It also has representative offices in China, Lebanon, India, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
