South African President Cyril Ramaphosa reiterates that the United States of America remains a strategic and historic partner for South Africa.
The South African statesman added that Pretoria will continue to interact with Washington through political, diplomatic and economic channels.
Ramaphosa was speaking this Tuesday in Cape Town at a session to answer questions from parliamentarians.
Relations between the two countries soured last month when President Donald Trump accused Pretoria of illegally seizing land and violating the human rights of some white citizens.
On the other hand, Trump cut off financial aid to South Africa.
Cyril Ramaphosa assures that the South African government is committed to finding diplomatic solutions to any misunderstandings surrounding the expropriation law and other aspects of the country's foreign policy.
"We take note of a recent executive order and statements by the current US administration on South Africa and aspects of our domestic and foreign policy. We express concern about the inaccurate characterization of the situation in South Africa and some of our laws and foreign policy positions. We will continue to interact with the United States and other stakeholders to correct this inaccurate characterization and ensure that we restore ties between our two countries," said Ramaphosa quoted by Rádio Moçambique.
"A lot of work is underway, through various channels, to ensure that the relationship is restored, and I am confident that all the efforts we are putting in place, both diplomatic, political and otherwise, will bear fruit," he added.
