Tanzania registers first cases of Mpox

Tanzânia regista primeiros casos de Mpox

Tanzania, which borders Mozambique, has confirmed the first two cases of Monkeypox virus (Mpox) infection, a potentially fatal disease that is affecting several African countries.

These are two individuals with symptoms who were isolated and tested on Sunday, according to the Minister of Health, Jenista Mhagama, in a statement published on Monday on X.

"Suspected cases include a truck driver who arrived in Dar es Salaam from a neighboring country," he added.

The report by CDC Africa, the health agency of the African Union (AU) published last week, confirmed 6034 cases of Mpox since January in 22 countries, resulting in 25 deaths.

At the end of February, the WHO maintained the high alert level for the Mpox epidemic, given the increase in the number of cases and countries affected.
