Sofala: Capturados 19 dos 220 reclusos evadidos em Gorongosa

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique, in Sofala province, have confirmed that they have arrested 19 of the 220 prisoners released by demonstrators in the town of Gorongosa.

The authorities say that after seven days, 19 of the 220 prisoners released illegally have been recaptured. On the other hand, they point to seven demonstrators arrested for acts of incitement to violence and destruction of public property. The PRM says that the situation is currently under control in the town of Gorongosa.

"From the work carried out, 19 prisoners were recaptured and seven protesters arrested for inciting these violent demonstrations," said Dércio Chacate, PRM spokesman in Sofala province, quoted by "O País".

The source also explained that the work involves raising awareness among the population to denounce the promoters of these acts and to recapture more illegally released prisoners.

"This is our action. On the other hand, we will continue to work to recapture the other individuals who were in prison."
