The Executive Director of MISA Mozambique, Ernesto Nhanale, is taking part in a session of the European Parliament this Tuesday, January 28, 2025, which is expected to address the human rights situation in Mozambique in the post-election context.
At the event organized by the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights, Ernesto Nhanale will speak about the challenges faced in Mozambique in the post-election period, with an emphasis on violations against journalists and human rights defenders, media censorship, internet blockades and disinformation.
For three months, Mozambique experienced a wave of demonstrations the likes of which has never been seen in the country's history, called by former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane in protest at the election results.
The police acted violently against the demonstrators, in many cases firing real bullets, causing the deaths of hundreds of people and several injuries.
