The Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT) has decided to reschedule the commissioning of the project to February 2026, due to Tropical Storm Filipo which hit the Inhassoro district in Inhambane province in March last year.
The storm hit the construction site, specifically the Temporary Pier, the landing area, the barge and the tugboat used to transport equipment.
Commissioning of the plant, a key exercise for the start-up of operations, has been rescheduled for the second and third quarters of this year, reports AIM quoting CTT project manager Eucides Dgedge
The project, with a capacity to produce 450 Megawatts of electricity, includes a power transmission line over 500 kilometers long.
"Commissioning is expected to begin between the 2nd and 3rd quarter of 2025 and the plant's new operational start-up date is February 2, 2026," said the project manager.
In the same AIM publication, the source explains that boiler 12, which was on the barge, was damaged beyond repair, destroying around 50% of the Temporary Pier, which made it impossible to transport the remaining boilers, leading to the barge and tug being stranded in an area 20 kilometers from the Temporary Pier.
