The Southern Regional Water Administration (ARA-Sul) warns of a moderate risk of flooding in the Maputo Basin, southern Mozambique.
In a statement quoted by AIM, ARA-Sul explains that the risk of flooding is due to the heavy rainfall recorded upstream in the Maputo river basin, over 50 mm in 24 hours.
As a result, there has been a significant increase in the volume of runoff, exceeding the alert level on the western border and possibly exceeding the alert level at the Madubula station in the next 24 hours.
For this reason, warns ARA-Sul, the possible impacts include flooding in the lower reaches of the Maputo River and in agricultural areas along the river, and road traffic restrictions in the stretches between the town of Madubula and the Catuane Administrative Post, the town of Madubula and the village of Bela-Vista.
"Thus, ARA-Sul, IP calls on society to take precautionary measures when using the Maputo River, to remove people and goods from the lower reaches of the river at risk of being swept away by the force of the water. It also calls for monitoring of the hydrological information disseminated by the competent authorities," reads the statement.
