Human Rights Watch yesterday accused Israel of committing crimes against humanity, extermination and even acts of genocide by intentionally depriving Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip of basic necessities for survival.

For the organization, the Israeli authorities have intentionally prevented Palestinians in Gaza from having access to drinking water and basic sanitation necessary for human survival since October 2023, according to the international press.

"They have restricted Gaza's access to piped water, rendered most of Gaza's water and sanitation infrastructure unusable by cutting off electricity and restricting fuel, deliberately destroyed and damaged water and sanitation infrastructure and water repair materials, and blocked the entry of essential water supplies," he said.

In a more than 100-page report, Human Rights Watch says that for weeks, the Israeli authorities cut off all water and prevented fuel, food and humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip, which deteriorated the living conditions of the population.

The organization demands that Israel "immediately guarantee" a sufficient amount of water, fuel and electricity in the Gaza Strip and calls on the international community to "adopt all measures in its power to prevent a genocide from being committed in Gaza".

Reacting to the accusation, the Israeli Foreign Ministry also accused the non-governmental organization of lying by accusing the Israelis of committing acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip by restricting access to water for civilians.

Israeli attacks have caused more than 45,000 deaths in the Palestinian territory, according to data from the Hamas government's Health Ministry, which the UN considers reliable.

However, in a statement, the Israeli executive said that the report is full of blatant lies and anti-Israel propaganda.
