Mozambique gains more specialized doctors

Moçambique ganha mais médicos especializados

Mozambique will now have 40 more specialty doctors to provide services in internal medicine, ophthalmology, maxillofacial surgery, anesthesia and resuscitation, following the completion of the training that took place at Maputo Central Hospital (HCM).

Pathology, pediatric surgery, dermatology, gynecology and obstetrics, cardiovascular surgery, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology, pulmonology, orthopedics, traumatology, forensic medicine, thoracic surgery and general surgery will also see an increase in medical staff as part of this training.

The professionals are part of the 182 trained at this hospital since 2020, with emphasis on the areas of pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, surgery, internal medicine, anesthesia and resuscitation.

The information is contained in a statement quoted by "Noticias" and released by the HCM, which states that the new specialists will be distributed throughout the country according to the needs identified by the Ministry of Health (MISAU).

Cesaltina Lorenzoni, scientific and pedagogical director of the country's largest health unit, recognizes that training specialized professionals is still a major challenge in the country.

"The training of specialist doctors is an institutional commitment at our hospital, but it remains a challenge. We have a management and organizational structure that is committed to responding to the sector's strategic objectives, which is to accelerate the medical residency programme," he said.
