The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said last night that he had, on his own initiative, had a telephone conversation with presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, as part of the search for solutions to end the demonstrations in the country.
Without revealing the content of the conversation, he said that the conversation with Venâncio Mondlane took place calmly and lasted more than an hour.
He promised to continue dialoguing and guaranteed that in January he will step down as President of the Republic and does not intend to declare a state of emergency in order to remain in power.
These statements were made in the communication to the nation on the occasion of Christmas and the end of the year.
