At least 15 people lost their lives due to tropical cyclone "Chido", which this Sunday (15) hit some districts in the provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula, in the north of the country, Mozambican authorities said.
Of these deaths, 12 occurred in Cabo Delgado.
The figures were updated this Monday (16) in Memba, Nampula province, by the president of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD), Luísa Meque, at the end of her visit to the places affected by the cyclone, according to AIM.
The information also indicates that 43 people were injured and 152,000 affected. According to the source, Luísa Meque is due to work in Cabo Delgado on Tuesday (17). The "Chido" was felt most acutely in the provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula, also affecting the provinces of Niassa and Zambézia.
Although it has been downgraded from a tropical cyclone to a tropical depression, "Chido" continues to cause damage to the electricity system, interrupting the power supply in various parts of those provinces.
