Biden makes first visit by a US President to Angola

Biden efectua a primeira visita de um Presidente dos EUA a Angola

The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, is paying a two-day visit to the Republic of Angola this Monday (03).

This is the first visit by an American president to this African country.

According to the Voa publication, Biden will take advantage of the visit to highlight an important US-funded development project: the 1,300-kilometer Lobito rail corridor, which links the mineral-rich African interior to the southwestern port.

The US claims to have raised more than 3 billion dollars of private and public investment in this project.

"The United States and Angola are working to address a wide range of pressing challenges, from reducing Africa's infrastructure deficit and increasing economic opportunities and sustainable development in the region to expanding technology and scientific cooperation, strengthening peace and security, and strengthening food security," said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, quoted in the publication.

The President "will recognize Angola's role as a regional leader and underline the true transformation of the US-Angola relationship," said Karine Jean-Pierre.

International political analysts say it is a triumph for Angolan diplomacy.
