Three dead, several injured on the first day of the demonstrations

The first day of the third phase of the fourth stage of the post-election demonstrations, called by Venâncio Mondlane, the presidential candidate supported by the Podemos party, resulted in three deaths from boiling and several injuries.  

According to a publication in the CIP Elections Bulletin, the three deaths were caused by police gunfire in the city of Nampula. There are also almost half a dozen injured.

The main access roads linking Nampula to other provinces were also blocked.

Most of the injured were in Maputo, at least three, including the young woman who was brutally injured and another who was hit in the eye by a rubber bullet.

There were no more than three victims in the city of Nampula.

The national road linking Nampula and Zambézia was blocked at Murrupula, in Nampula, according to the publication.

The road linking the cities of Nampula, Nacala and Pemba was also cut off from the Namialo junction, in the Meconta district.

In the south, the border at Ressano Garcia was closed and the connection to the city of Matola and Maputo was restricted.

The Northern Development Corridor train came to a standstill. The demonstrators took it over and shouted for Venâncio.
