16 a cada 100 crianças nascem prematuras em Moçambique

In Mozambique, 16 out of every 100 children are born prematurely, according to data from the United Nations Children's Fund, the UN agency responsible for providing humanitarian resources and aid to children.

According to the organization, 45% of women of reproductive age take more than an hour to reach a health facility in the country.

According to UNICEF, the situation in the country is serious and urgent, as it is a challenge for the hospital assistant.

"Premature babies often need additional care which should be carried out by trained staff, but is not always available in all health facilities," said Benilde Soares, a health specialist at UNICEF quoted in a publication in the newspaper "O País".

The expert added that newborns themselves are a vulnerable population and premature babies are more vulnerable.

He pointed out that access for newborns and premature babies is also determined by access to conditions and the level of access to healthcare in the country in general.

UNICEF speaks of the country's need to honor its global commitments, one of which is access to health care.
