Post-election crisis: Nyusi says there is no reason for Mozambicans to die

Crise pós eleitoral: Nyusi diz não haver motivos para os moçambicanos morrerem

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, says that "there is no reason for Mozambicans to die, just as there is no reason to destroy the country".

Filipe Nyusi made these statements yesterday, during a meeting with all the parties with representation in the Assembly of the Republic and extra-parliamentary parties, which Frelimo did not attend.

In a meeting aimed at finding solutions to the current political crisis in the country, the Head of State invited the political parties to an open conversation without party colors.

"It's necessary to talk together because we belong to a recent democratic movement through elections, which means it's the country's duty," he said, quoted by the newspaper "O País".

"I said that good ideas have no color, and that's true. At no time will we find a party that doesn't talk about peace, fighting poverty and development," he said.

Filipe Nyusi also said that he did not want Mozambicans to die.

"There is no desire for death, no desire for destruction, no desire for injustice, but the question of why this is happening is something we need to look at. So our request is to consult what we are experiencing," he said.

The President acknowledged that "the differences are not going to end, but we have to work towards finding a common denominator that unites us and separates us from what divides us, but above all find ways out," he said.

For their part, the parties agreed that there should be no differences, and asked the President about the absence of the Frelimo party.

"I don't see the leadership of the Frelimo party here. Taking into account that your excellency represents our state, throughout the campaign we had four presidential candidates, I am one of them, but the others are not here," questioned Lutero Simango, representing the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM).

The same position was taken by the president of the Ecologist Party, João Massango. "If we're here, it's to discuss the country's situation. The Frelimo party should be here in greater force and it is right for all the parties that we should be here," he said.

In the same vein, the president of PIMO, Yacub Sibind, said that the parties should meet with the head of state if they have contributions aimed at solving the country's problems.

In response to this, Nyusi said that the consultation models have not yet been determined, however, all parties must be present, hence the importance of unbureaucratic meetings so that agendas and discussions can also emerge to solve more problems.
