Ministra da Terra e Ambiente na conferência mundial sobre biodiversidade

The Minister of Land and Environment, Ivete Maibaze, is taking part in the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Cali, Colombia, from October 26 to 31, under the slogan "Peace with Nature".

This is an extremely important meeting for the country, as it will allow analysis of the state of implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and its alignment with national strategies and action plans; finalize and operationalize the multilateral benefit-sharing mechanism; establish a new work program on provisions of the Convention related to indigenous peoples and local communities, including the development of the monitoring framework and review of the fund for the effective implementation of the Convention's actions.

The Global Biodiversity Framework seeks to reverse the trend of the direct and indirect causes of biodiversity loss and promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals relating to the conservation of biological diversity or its sustainable use and the fair and equitable distribution of the benefits arising from the exploitation of genetic resources, while respecting the sovereignty of each nation over the heritage existing in its territory.

The Minister of Land and Environment is accompanied by the National Director of the Environment, the Director General of the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC), representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation; Science, Technology and Higher Education; Agriculture and Rural Development; Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries; academic institutions; non-governmental organizations and civil society, among other relevant entities in the process of conserving biodiversity in the country.
