Elections: OAM says parallel vote counting results from lack of transparency in the process

Eleições: OAM diz que contagem paralela dos votos resulta da falta de transparência do processo

The parallel counting of votes by the candidates during the elections is due to the lack of transparency in the process, said the president of the Mozambican Bar Association (OAM).

Quoted by the newspaper "O País", Carlos Martins said that in order to avoid disputes, it was necessary to count votes in real time as a way of increasing the transparency of the electoral process.

"More transparency from the electoral management bodies (...) we are living in a moment of crisis, of mistrust towards the electoral management bodies, and this is what naturally causes these parallel counts (...) So it's not something unprecedented, it's possible for the count to be permanent, to be monitored almost in real time, and this naturally removes suspicions about the process," said Carlos Martins.

It should be noted that Renamo, MDM and Podemos have already gone public and said that they are counting the votes in the electoral process in parallel.

The CNE must release the official results of the October 9 elections by October 25.
