Gaza: TDB Bank grants USD 100,000 to finance agricultural activity

Gaza: Banco TDB concede USD 100 mil para financiar actividade  agrícola

One hundred thousand dollars is the amount that the agricultural association of Gaza province will receive from the Trade and Development Bank of East and South Africa (TDB) for the agricultural sector in this region.

"This project is aimed at the main challenges faced by this community in the face of climate change. Providing water pumps that use solar energy and adding the precious liquid to tanks and irrigation infrastructures," explained Admassu Tadesse, CEO of TDB, as quoted by the newspaper "O País".

The official, who was speaking this Tuesday during a meeting with the government in Maputo, also said that this modest project will help food security, helping production and empowering women economically.

"The TDB Group has provided us with funding for programs and projects in the agricultural, industrial, energy, transport and logistics sectors, among others," said Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane.

Maleiane also said that in the energy sector, our country had benefited from a financing line of 108 million US dollars to make the liquefied natural gas project in Cabo Delgado operational.

Meanwhile, Maleiane pointed out that the agricultural sector has been one of the Group's priority areas in terms of financing. Yes, "we also have financing from the TDB Group for the development, processing and export of cereal grains, especially cashew nuts, corn and sesame, contributing to the generation of foreign currency for our country," he added.

It should be noted that Mozambique is a shareholder in TDB, through the National Investment Bank.

"As a shareholder, we also have the benefit of receiving dividends since 2015, totaling 2.4 million US dollars, and our stake is in the order of 10.5 million US dollars," said Max Tonela, Minister of Economy and Finance.

The meeting took place in Maputo City under the slogan "Strategies for Harnessing Trade and Development to Promote Inclusive Growth and Sustainability in the Region".
