The lack of rain, due to the El Niño phenomenon that is already affecting the country, could jeopardize the current agricultural campaign in the district of Cuamba, in Niassa, said an official source.
The director of Cuamba's Economic Activities Service, José de Almeida Júnior, said that due to the El Niño phenomenon, the seed sown in November and December is drying up.
"The district planned to produce more than six hundred thousand tons of various products, but due to the situation, the region may not reach the target," he said, quoted by Rádio Mocambique.
According to the source, the sector is currently making producers aware of the need to prioritize drought-tolerant crops and the use of casualties to relaunch the seed.
