Samsung has previewed what will be one of the great new features of its future Galaxy (predictably the Galaxy S24). And it's neither a new processor nor a new camera, but a new artificial intelligence (AI) system. And among its features is one that looks really useful: a real-time translator for calls.
Translating between different languages is nothing new, as tools like Google Translate have been offering this option for years. What is new is the ease of use. From the next Galaxy, Samsung will implement the new AI Live Translate Call system.
According to Samsung, quoted by the Sapo portal, this is a tool that will be integrated directly into the native phone application of Samsung phones and will make it easier to communicate with a person who speaks another language.
When you activate the translation option, you'll see the entire conversation translated on your phone screen. As if they were subtitles, but of the real-time conversation we're having with the person. So it's a complete subtitle system, but instead of being applied to videos or movies, it's applied to telephone conversations.
Regarding the privacy of this real-time translation system, Samsung explains that, as the AI is integrated into the device, private conversations will be processed within the smartphone and will not be transferred to the cloud.
This call translation system is part of the South Korean company's commitment to its new artificial intelligence. Samsung Gauss is the name given to Samsung's generative AI.
It is an AI with three facets. A linguistic model specialized in translation and writing, a programming model and a third to generate images.
