Around 277 former Renamo guerrillas in Sofala have just submitted their documentation with a view to receiving their pensions, as part of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process of the residual forces of this political formation.
The announcement was made yesterday by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, on his official Facebook account.
Nyusi also said that the process is taking place within the established timetable, under the monitoring of the parties involved in the DDR, and that in September the guerrillas from the provinces of Manica and Tete will be covered.
The account indicates that the Swiss statesman, who was visiting Mozambique, reiterated his and his country's willingness to support the successful implementation of the process of setting pensions for former Renamo guerrillas.
It should be noted that the submission of documentation is the result of an agreement reached between the government and the Renamo party in the context of the closure of the last Renamo base in Gorongosa last June.
It was because of this closure that more than three hundred Renamo officers officially went into civilian life.
