"Africa must act now to stop climate disasters" - PR

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, challenges all countries in the world, particularly in Africa, to act immediately to halt the human abuses that attack biodiversity.

The Head of State said that the African continent has been monitoring with great concern the floods that have buffeted the Sahel region in the western part of Africa, which is extremely volatile, impacted by various crises including global warming, ethnic cleansing and the terrorist threat.

Nyusi was speaking as Champion for Disaster Risk Management in Africa, while addressing the commemoration ceremony of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, an event held yesterday (Thursday), in Maputo.

"Extreme weather events will continue to occur, with increasing frequency, if we do nothing," Nyusi said, quoted by AIM, stressing that "we know what to do at each moment."
