The President of the Supreme Court, Adelino Muchanga, said today that the institution he presides over will have a new four-storey building in Maputo city within two years.
Quoted by Televisão de Moçambique (TVM), Muchanga said that the idea was to build a larger building, but town planning rules require it to be less robust.
"I think that within two years we'll have a new four-storey building, with a basement that we're going to use. We wanted to have a slightly taller building, but because of municipal rules we can't do that," he said.
On the other hand, the President of the Supreme Court said that all the districts of Cabo Delgado affected by terrorism, where various judicial infrastructures and even cases were set on fire, will have new buildings, some rebuilt and others benefiting from a presidential initiative.
"It's not going to be easy, but it's a government mechanism that we're going to use to reconstitute the entire collection of cases from the Cabo Delgado courts as soon as possible," he said.
The public tenders for the work will be launched later this year and, according to Muchanga, the bids have already been awarded. "As soon as we get the visas, we'll start construction."
Each type 1 court is budgeted at 40 million and this "depends on the bids submitted according to each tender".
In the meantime, the mobile court that used to circulate in Maputo city is now on its way to Cabo Delgado.
