Candidate Luís Inácio Lula da Silva and the current Brazilian head of state will contest the second round of Brazil's presidential election, to take place on October 30.
According to the official data, Lula da Silva got 47.85% of the votes in the first round while Bolsonaro got 43.70%, when 96.93% of polling stations are counted.
With these partial results, the election is now "mathematically defined" and requires a second round, as can be read on the website where the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) is publishing the partial results.
In addition to Lula da Silva and Bolsonaro, the 156 million voters called to the polls had the chance to vote for Ciro Gomes, Simone Tebet, Luís Felipe D'Ávila, Soraya Tronicke, Eymael, Padre Kelmon, Leonardo Pericles, Sofia Manzano, and Vera Lúcia as Brazilian presidential candidates. (Lusa)
