The number of crimes committed per day in South Africa tends to grow. The data advanced by the South African police indicate a record of almost 70 killers per day. In the first half of 2022 there was an increase of 16.5% compared to the first half of 2021, said an official source from that country.
According to the data presented by the source the country, which has one of the worst crime rates in the world, recorded 6,424 murders from April to June, up from 6,083 in the first quarter of 2022. In 2021, the average was 65 murders per day.
"The number of homicides remains high and worrisome," Police Minister Bheki Cele admitted at a press conference.
In the hierarchy of the main motives for the murders are "disputes and misunderstandings" as well as "retaliation and revenge", with self-defense in third place," the police minister said.
Taking the law into one's own hands is a growing phenomenon in South Africa, where the majority of the population cannot afford the services of private security companies, which work for people with high incomes.
