The Minister of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Lídia Cardoso, says it is urgent to build a Regional Fisheries Control, Monitoring and Surveillance Center for the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
According to the source, the center aims to better respond to the great challenges that are imposed in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, piracy and all kinds of transnational maritime crimes.
The governor, who was speaking Thursday in Maputo, during the opening of the VIII Coordinating Council of the institution, explained that the infrastructure will be built in the Ka-tembe district, Maputo city and, at this moment, the process of acquiring signatures is underway.
"We are working to control illegal fishing and it is not an overnight issue, but the government is working to reduce the harmful effects on the economy.
So it is imperative that we work with all other stakeholders, including SADC, to complete the activity, the execution of which is in our work programs," he explained, according to. (AIM).
