Studies show that more than 600 million women and girls around the world lack the means to manage their menstrual cycle.
To combat this problem, Grindrod teamed up with Be Girl and gave away 500 units of reusable sanitary panties and pads in Maputo.
In order to promote access to health, education, and success opportunities for Mozambican girls and women, Grindrod created a strategic partnership with Be Girl, a social enterprise, and the two entities offered 500 waterproof panties and 500 reusable sanitary pads.
The communiqué sent to our newsroom states that the initiative took place last April, when the Mozambican Women's Day was celebrated.
"Grindrod's goal was to create an action with long-term effects, empowering and educating girls about hygiene during the menstrual cycle and providing the necessary panties and pads to ensure they can continue their education," the statement read.
In addition to sharing the knowledge with the girls, the Be Girl team also trained 35 teachers so that they too will be able to train young women.
"We know that education goes beyond the information that is transmitted inside classrooms. Our girls have the right to decent menstrual health and hygiene. The healthier they are, the better students they will be and a better future they will have," said the director of the Matola Gare EPC School, Maria Raquel Luís.
