PR sworn in new ministers

The President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi, will swear in today in Maputo the new Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, and other members of the government, as part of the restructuring of the executive.

The PR had seven ministers and a deputy minister dismissed on Wednesday and Thursday. Some of the figures have been assigned other ministerial portfolios, while the fate of others is still unknown.

Also on Thursday, the Head of State named the former Minister of Economy and Finance Adriano Maleiane as the new Prime Minister, passing the dossiers of the State accounts into the hands of Max Tonela - who in turn leaves the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy to be led by Carlos Zacarias, until then president of the National Petroleum Institute (INP).

Carlos Mesquita transitions from Industry and Commerce to Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources.

Maleiane, Tonela and Mesquita have accompanied Nyusi since his first term (2015-2020).

Amílcar Tivane is also sworn in as vice-minister of Economy and Finance, Silvino Moreno as minister of Industry and Commerce, and Lídia Cardoso as the new minister of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries.
