The National Association of Teachers (ANAPRO) has decreed April 19, 2025 as the "National Day of Reflection for Education", in protest against what it considers to be the government's failure to fulfill its promises regarding the payment of overtime and other demands of the teaching profession.
According to a statement released by the organization and quoted by the Rigor newspaperIn a virtual meeting on April 4, ANAPRO's board of directors identified a series of problems affecting the profession, including the drastic reduction in the amount paid for overtime, the lack of adequate medical care for taxpayers and the pressure to resume administrative acts, which remain unresolved.
The association also denounces the existence of false and contradictory information disseminated by central and local government bodies, which it says has led to sporadic stoppages in various schools across the country.
As a way of pressing for change, ANAPRO is calling on teachers to gather on April 19 in the squares and other public spaces of their districts, wearing their gowns, to discuss strategies for immediate action and to show national solidarity for the cause.
The organization stresses that the aim is to create a moment of reflection and unity among teachers, so that a consensual solution can soon be found to the problems affecting the education sector.
"We want April 19 to be a milestone for demanding what is fair. The teaching profession is tired of promises and omissions," says the statement signed by ANAPRO's vice-president, Marcos Calisto Mulima.
Very recently, addressing the payment of debts relating to overtime for various professional classes, including teachers, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, clarified that the payments were underway, albeit gradually, as they were being made on the basis of the budget balances from the previous year, pending the approval of the 2025 Plan and Budget by Parliament.
