Leader of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) defends the economic independence of the country to "mitigate the suffering of the people". Lutero Simango also criticizes the suspension of the Single Wage Table by the Government.
The President of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), Lutero Simango, defended, this Tuesday (09.08), that Mozambique needs to achieve economic independence to ensure better living conditions for citizens.
Speaking at a press conference in the city of Maxixe, in the southern province of Inhambane, Simango also criticized the lack of payment of salaries in the single table approved by the government this year.
Quoted by DW, Lutero Simango said that the country "is in need of serious work to gain economic independence as the best way to mitigate the suffering of the people."
"But for that," the MDM president continued, "you need a committed Government that can serve Mozambicans, and unfortunately, the Government of the day does not have an adequate policy to ensure economic and social inclusion."
The Mozambican minimum wage is 8,000 meticais. However, a basic basket of goods in the country costs about 19,000 meticais, according to data from the Mozambican Workers' Organization.
Facing this reality, Lutero Simango said that the minimum wage practiced in the country does not satisfy Mozambican workers.
TSU cancellation
The leader of the second largest force in the Mozambican opposition also lamented the non-implementation of the Single Wage Table (TSU), which should have gone into effect last July, as announced by the Government, but was a failure due to errors in the allocation of values by the authorities.
"In the last five to ten years, I have yet to witness the promotion of the professional careers of officials. As a matter of fact, promotion stagnated a long time ago, one could not move forward to the Single Wage Table without first resolving the issue of promotion of our state employees and agents," Simango criticized during the meeting with journalists.
Despite his criticism of the current economic and social situation in the country, Lutero Simango did not put forward any concrete proposals to try to change this picture. But he said that the MDM is preparing for the next electoral race.
