The President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi, today in Maputo, asked investors to consider resuming construction of infrastructure works for the exploration of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the province of Cabo Delgado.
"We consider it pertinent that consideration be given to the possibilities of resuming the developments of onshore construction work for the first liquefaction units in Area 1 and the shared infrastructure with Area 4, namely, the heavy material receiving dock and the liquefied natural gas export dock," the (PR) said.
This call from the PR follows an explanation of the situation of security in the village of Palmawhere the Rovuma Basin projects are located. Nyusi, who was speaking on the sidelines of the opening of the seventh edition of the Gas and Energy Summit, assured those present that stability and security in Palma are much better than in the era before the terrorist attacks.
"The security conditions in Palma are at a much higher level than the situation before the attacks on the town of Palma," Nyusi said, being more specific to ensure greater security in the Palma-Mocímboa da Praia perimeter.
Nyusi said that further technical meetings will be held with the operators and leaders of the mega-projects to find other ways to support maintaining security in these areas.
"Security will always be needed, not only in Palma and Mocímboa da Praia. So life cannot stop. We must work towards maintaining [security]," he said.
The PR assured that about 10,000 people have already returned to Palma and that Mocímboa da Praia already has about 20 percent of its population. Nyusi added that the sovereign bodies are re-establishing their normal functioning in parallel with the reconstruction work of social infrastructures.
