Government intends to restructure the INSS to stop recurring financial scandals

The Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, said this Wednesday in parliament that a plan to restructure the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) is underway in order to curb financial scandals.

The government's announcement comes after it was recently reported that the institution's administrators approved millionaire subsidies valued at 20 million meticais for the beginning of their functions.

Answering the parliamentarians, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, referred that a legislation recently submitted to the Parliament will allow the regulation of the payment of remunerations to the managers of public funds.

"The current management model of this system brings with it challenges, which we urgently need to overcome so that it can fulfill its mission effectively and with transparency. We reiterate our commitment to continue working to ensure the robustness of the mandatory social security system," said the governor, explaining that: the reform will clarify the role of the INSS in the management of the Mandatory Social Security Fund, as well as the State in the supervision and oversight of the social security system, through the Insurance Supervision Institute".

According to Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, with such structural reform we intend to ensure greater transparency, accountability and responsibility in the management of resources channeled by workers and employers to the Mandatory Social Security Fund.
