The CEO of Italian multinational Saipem, Alessandro Puliti, said on Tuesday that the company will resume operations in July this year on the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in Mozambique in favor of French company TotalEnergies.
In October 2021, the multinational hoped to resume its role in Cabo Delgado in mid-2022, subject to security in the area.
"To reach our revenue target in 2022, we also have to consider Mozambique's contribution," Chief Financial Officer Antonio Paccioretti told analysts in a conference call, quoted by the agency Reuters.
Cited by same agencyPuliti stressed that his return to Mozambique will be gradual, depending on the information he receives from his clients.
Puliti said that Saipem had no direct information on the human rights and security situation in Cabo Delgato province, where the project will be located.
"We don't have direct visibility on the human rights report, but we have agreed with Total on the resumption of operations in July... this implies that our client is confident of resolving potential outstanding issues by that date," said Puliti.
