Two PRM agents and four other individuals were arrested on Thursday, 06, accused of robbing and stealing gold and money from a mining company in the district of Manica, in the province of the same name.
According to Voz da América, the police officers, along with three other civilians, allegedly took the company's uniform and gun, which they used to threaten the mining company's security guards and steal three kilos of raw gold and 750,000 meticais.
"One of the officers is a member of the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR), the second has already been expelled from the police ranks, certainly due to bad behavior, and a third, an active member, who is presumed to be assigned to the border guard police, is on the run," said Mateus Mindu, police spokesman in Manica, stressing that the officers had fired AKM shots before the robbery.
"Because they are PRM agents, they are supposed to protect people and guarantee order and security," said Mindu, quoted by Voice of America.
They had violated "our exclusive task", he said, assuring that criminal and disciplinary proceedings had been opened.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that police officers have been involved in crimes in Manica province.
At the beginning of the year, two agents were arrested on suspicion of robbing farmers in Macossa, while at the end of last year another two feared agents from the Rapid Intervention Unit were arrested in Barué.
